Student Experience Leiden
Leiden, The Netherlands
Embedded in the Netherlands' largest life sciences campus
Leiden Bio Science Park is the largest and most comprehensive life sciences campus in the Netherlands. Student Experience Leiden sits at its entrance, exclusively serving Leiden University students. The two buildings were designed by Paul de Ruiter Architects and VenhoevenCS, with landscaping by LANDLAB and construction by Heddes Bouw & Ontwikkeling. The 700 fully furnished studios range from 18 to 25 m², each with a private kitchen and bathroom. 200 studios are prioritised for students aged 18 to 21, with rental prices set to qualify for housing allowance.

Designed for focus, built for community
The shared facilities are concentrated at ground level behind robust brick plinths: study rooms, meeting rooms, a cinema room, game corner, private dining room, lounge and launderette. Above, the aluminium faceted facades create an ever-changing play of light and shadow across the studio floors. A landscaped courtyard and rooftop terraces provide outdoor space in a car-low park setting that prioritises cyclists and pedestrians. Solar panels and a sustainable rainwater drainage system reflect the environmental standards of the Bio Science Park itself.
Two buildings, 700 studios, and a courtyard at the entrance of Bio Science Park. Student Experience Leiden was the first location outside Amsterdam and the project that proved the model could travel. Designed by Paul de Ruiter Architects and VenhoevenCS with aluminium faceted facades above brick plinths, the complex opened in July 2023.
Every project is shaped by the people behind it. We partner with specialists who share our commitment to building living environments that last.
